The Paris-Dakar Challenge is designed to cater for riders of all levels of skil. The culmination is an amazing off-road Sahara crossing where you will camp out under the stars a hundred miles from civilisation.  Training is given for off-road novices, and an alternative tarmac route is available for those wanting to take the less strenuous option! Check out the blog from our last trip here.

Trip Highlights

  • Your group photo taken infront of the Eiffel tower, before starting your marathon 4000 mile adventure across Europe and North Africa, en route to Dakar.
  • Getting used to the dirt during off-road training in Morocco.
  • Classic trails in Morocco and getting well off the beaten track.
  • Exploring the colourful markets and meeting the locals in Marrakech.
  • Practicing your sand techniques in the beautiful coastal region around the town of Guilmim on the edge of the Sahara.
  • Blasting across vast Saharan plains without a road in sight during the desert crossing in Mauritania.
  • Chatting around the fire about the day’s adventures when camping out in the African bush.
  • Getting the sand out of your hair with a much needed cold beer in the cultured colonial town of St Louis, Senegal.
  • Cruising into Dakar on the last stage of your unforgettable adventure – amazed at what it is you have just achieved.

Your Typical Day

Each morning will begin with a filling breakfast followed by a briefing on the day ahead.  It will cover such things as the route to be taken, the expected condition of the road or piste, the distance to be covered and everything else you need to know to make it to your destination.  A day’s travel will normally commence at approximately 8.30am, and finish between 4 and 6pm with plenty of breaks to rest, eat and drink. Many nights will be spent in hotels. Some will also be camping, either in designated campsites with showers and washing facilities, or in the desert or bush.  The support vehicle will carry enough equipment to ensure that this should be a pleasant and comfortable experience.  Meals will usually be prepared with assistance from expedition members on a rotational basis.  Then it will either be time to relax around the campfire, or wander into town to discover just how unique and amazing African cities can be.

Am I Suitable?

We at Kudu Expeditions pride ourselves on striving to make these amazing adventures accessible to all, irrespective of background or experience.  We do this by talking to our customers, and making sure that they have a good understanding of what the expedition entails before they commit to it.  We also run pre-trip training which is included in the price.

For more information on this package, please see the Training page.  If you are as inspired by the thought of undertaking such an adventure as we are, but have concerns about how suitable you may be, simply either e-mail or phone us, and together we will be able to find out if this kind of adventure is for you – you may just surprise yourself!

*  In Africa things change fast; borders close, visas are refused for unknown reasons and routes become impassable.  Although we will strive to overcome all obstacles the organisers reserve the right to alter the routes from the ones listed here.
